German citizens are visa-exempt for Canada for tourism or business visits of up to 6 months, but an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is mandatory before boarding a flight to Canada. The eTA is electronically linked to your passport and is valid for up to five years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. If you arrive by land or sea, an eTA is not required, but you must still meet entry requirements.
