Important Notes

Japanese citizens can travel to Italy and other Schengen Area countries for tourism, business, or transit purposes without a visa for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This period applies to the entire Schengen Area, not just Italy. From mid-2025, Japanese citizens will need to apply for an ETIAS authorization before travelling to the Schengen Area. This is not a visa but a travel authorization, similar to the ESTA for the USA.
