German citizens can enter South Korea visa-free for stays up to 90 days. However, they must obtain a K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization) prior to boarding their flight or ship. The K-ETA is valid for multiple entries for 2 years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. The application is done online. It is recommended to apply at least 72 hours before departure, though it can sometimes be processed faster. The cost is 10,000 KRW (approx. 7.5 USD).
