Important Notes

All foreign nationals, including German citizens, require a visa to enter Turkmenistan. The most critical step is obtaining a Letter of Invitation (LOI) from a licensed tour operator in Turkmenistan, which then needs approval from the State Migration Service. Without an approved LOI, a visa application will not be processed. Visa processing times can vary significantly and are not guaranteed. It is highly recommended to start the process well in advance (several months). The visa fee is typically paid in USD upon collection at the embassy/consulate or upon arrival if the visa is picked up at Ashgabat International Airport (with prior arrangement and LOI).
